4 Women Killed In Car Accident In Chicago's Austin Neighborhood

A terrible car accident in Chicago's Austin community (West Side) claimed the lives of four women Saturday night.

The car in which the four were traveling hit a beam supporting the Green Line elevated track in the 4800 block of W. Lake Street.

The accident happened at approximately 11:55 p.m.

Three of the four women in the car died at the accident scene. The fourth woman, Ieshia Nelson, 21, of Chicago, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and shortly thereafter pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

A settlement has been reached between the City of Chicago and the family of Maya Hirsch, a 4-year-old girl that was struck and killed during a hit & run accident on May 20, 2006.

David and Danit Steinbach Hirsch, Maya's parents, sued the city in connection with the accident. They claimed that stop signs, as well as other traffic control markings and devices, were improperly placed and/or had deteriorated.

This settlement comes the night before the start of the civil trial. No details of the settlement or its value have yet been released.

Two "wrong-way driver" incidents occurred this morning on a Chicago-area expressway, the Bishop Ford Freeway, with one ending in a fatal accident.

Details are somewhat limited, but here are details being widely reported:

The "wrong-way driver" was heading south in the northbound lanes, between 111th and 115th streets, around 4:30 a.m. The car avoided some oncoming traffic, but then while traveling at "highway speeds" hit another vehicle.

One person was killed, and two people - perhaps including the person who later died - were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A dump truck flipped over on the ramp at approximately 1:18 a.m. According to police, the truck was moving too fast as it hit the curve on the ramp.

"Wrong-Way" Driver Travels 10 Miles On Interstate 90 (I90) In Illinois

Early this morning, a "wrong-way" driver traveled 10 miles on Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) before being stopped at approximately 4:05 a.m.

The van was first reported driving in the wrong direction (going westbound in the eastbound lanes) on I90 at Nagle Avenue; by the time it was stopped, it had traveled to Busse Road, according to the Illinois State Police.

The van was finally stopped by a state maintenance truck, which had turned on its flashing yellow lights. The Illinois State Police then quickly arrived.

No injuries or collisions were reported during the 10-miles driven.

"Wrong-Way" Driver On Edens Expressway In Wilmette, Illinois

Another person was pulled over early this morning after driving the wrong way on the Edens Expressway.

Illinois State Police say they started receiving calls regarding the errant vehicle around 3:30 a.m., and the car traveled one mile in the wrong direction before it was pulled over by Wilmette Police.

Car Accident On Chicago's Lake Shore Drive (LSD) Injures 3 People

This morning, three people were injured during a car accident on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive (LSD) as the car they were in went over a guard rail. The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m., according to Chicago Police.

It is unclear as to what caused the car to leave the roadway and transcend the guardrail.

According to news reports, Curtis Sanders, 24, of Hammond, Indiana was driving the car, a Buick, that was involved in the accident. After going over the guardrail, the car hit a light pole.

Two People Rescued From Burning Car After Accident On Chicago's Eisenhower Expressway (I290)

This morning, two people were rescued from a burning car on Chicago's Eisenhower Expressway (I-290). The car had caught fire after it went through a fence and crashed into a tree.

The early morning accident occurred around 6:40 a.m., on the outbound Eisenhower between Central and Austin.

According to the Illinois State Police, a 29-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle for an unknown reason, left the roadway, and went down an embankment, at which point she went through the fence and hit the tree.

Man Dies After Hit & Run Accident Near Chicago's Division & LaSalle Intersection

According to Chicago Police, a 32-year-old male died after being hit by by an SUV early Saturday morning during a Chicago hit & run accident at Division Street and LaSalle.

The SUV was driven by a 21-year-old woman, who fled the scene of the accident but was caught a couple of blocks away.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., as the man was walking in a crosswalk; he was hit by the SUV, a Jeep Liberty, as the Jeep was heading southbound on LaSalle.

SUV Rollover On Chicago's Stevenson Expressway (I-55) Leads To Man's Death

A man was killed after a car accident on Chicago's Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55) in the Bridgeport neighborhood on Sunday.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Jason Dye, 25, of Justice, Illinois, was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed In Death Of Woman Walking On Chicago's Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290)

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed yesterday in the death of a woman who was fatally struck on Chicago's Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) on September 2, 2011.

The accident that lead to the death of the woman, Diana Paz, 25, was the subject of a September 2, 2011 blog post titled "Woman Killed While Walking On Eisenhower Expressway."

Diana Paz was struck by a truck on the Eisenhower Expressway after being let off at a Mannheim Road BP Amoco station by an Illinois State Trooper. Hours earlier she had been arrested for driving the wrong way. The wrongful death lawsuit was filed against the law enforcement agencies involved that night, the Illinois State Police and the Westchester Police Department. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Paz's son, Eric Martinez.
