One person died and two others were seriously injured following a car accident early Saturday morning in Pasco County.

Authorities believe a 32-year-old Brooksville man lost control of his 1986 Corvette around 1 a.m., causing the vehicle to spin out of control.

The vehicle apparently rotated, rolled and landed on its roof. The man and two other passengers were thrown from the car.

All three occupants were apparently not wearing seat belts.

The Brooksville man was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, a 28-year-old
Spring Hill woman and a 26-year-old Spring Hill woman, were taken to Bayonet Point Hospital with critical injuries.

No other details regarding the crash have been released.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Two unrelated incidents off Fort De Soto Park at the end of April spotlight the hazards the public can face as warm spring weather moves in and people return to the water.

A 50-year-old paddle boarder has been missing since April 28 when his board was found near the north entrance of the Manatee River and his car found near Fort De Soto Park. The search has been called off, but officials still hope to locate the missing man.

The following day, a 56-year-old Clearwater woman apparently drowned in the waters near Fort De Soto's North Beach picnic area.

While weather may not have been a factor in these two incidents, they do show people that they should exercise caution anytime they are in or near the waters, even during as placid a season as spring.

According to a Bay News 9 meteorologist, when cold fronts from winter continue to mesh with the warmer air and water spring brings, strong gusts and rip currents can be produced making it dangerous to swim or kayak or canoe or paddleboard in the open water.

Local safety experts warn the public that those erratic winds should be the top worry of anyone planning to venture into the water this spring.

A 26-year-old St. Pete police officer was issued a careless driving citation Thursday for a February collision that left a man in a wheelchair dead.

Investigators claim the 45-year-old victim was impaired and had marijuana in his system when he crossed a street around 4:20 a.m. Feb. 19 apparently wearing dark clothing.

It was also determined that the officer was speeding in his marked police cruiser when the accident occurred. Police estimate the man was traveling at a speed of 61 mph in a 40 mph area.

He has a traffic court appearance scheduled for May 24.

The police officer has been with the department since October 2010. An internal affairs investigation is under way and the man has been placed on administrative leave.

The victim, who the report claims had a blood alcohol content of 0.136, became a quadriplegic in the 1980s after a car crash.

The incident was reported to a nursing supervisor who then contacted police.

The accused was booked into the St. Johns County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.

State inspectors Wednesday were looking into an International Drive go-kart attraction that apparently sent an 11-year-old girl and a man to hospitals.

The chief of the Florida Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection claims the collision impact, which happened around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, caused a corner of the track to fall a few inches.

The attraction will remain closed until the investigation is complete.

The girl’s leg was cut and the man was complaining of chest pains. As of Wednesday, the conditions of the two were not available.

The Florida state bureau last inspected the attraction in December. They allegedly discovered one cart with a cracked framed and another with a faulty gas cap. The damages were apparently repaired.

The attraction was the site that killed a maintenance worker last July.

A 30-year-old man fell while working on the ride, which according to the website swings patrons 230 feet above the ground and rotates them 360 degrees at about 50 mph.

Bomb squad specialists responded to the scene to handle the mailbox’s contents. As of late Wednesday, they were still unidentifiable.

A 64-year-old Hawthorne, Florida man was killed Tuesday morning when a fishing expedition turned deadly.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman, the operator of the boat was killed after the airboat capsized. His 50-year-old fishing buddy visiting from New York suffered minor injuries and was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka.

The men apparently placed their airboat in the Rodman Reservoir from the Orange Springs boat ramp around 8:30 a.m. The boat rolled over about a half mile from the ramp sending both men into the water.

Both men apparently shared a life jacket and used a cooler to stay afloat.

A man in a canoe found the pair drifting and attempted to paddle them to shore. As they neared the shore, a pontoon boat arrived and the occupants put the men on their boat to take them back to safety.

The Hawthorne man was apparently unresponsive. A Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic pronounced the man dead at the scene.

FWC officials claim the men were in the water for a couple of hours.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigators were still trying to uncover the sunken airboat late Tuesday.

The Gainesville man was charged with manslaughter and discharging a firearm in public from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of any person.

According to a police report, the deceased attempted to flee the scene after the gunfire and crashed into a home about a block away from the restaurant.

A child was riding in the back seat of the victim’s car during the incident and survived the shooting and subsequent crash.

The accused apparently called 911 after driving away from the scene.

A 36-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed Sunday night in Hernando Beach after a collision with car launched him from his motorcycle.

The man was driving his Kawasaki motorcycle around 9:40 p.m. when a 2008 BMW sedan apparently attempted to turn left in front of him.

According to troopers, the driver of the BMW turned into the motorcyclists’ path causing him to crash into the side of the vehicle sending him flying from his motorcycle. The man landed in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers noted that the man was wearing a helmet.

The investigation remains underway.

A tractor-trailer slammed into a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 27 in Polk County this week, resulting in the death of one person and causing a chain reaction of crashes.

In total, three separate crashes involving nine vehicles occurred in the Lake Wales area.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, the semi was traveling south when it drifted into the northbound lanes around 5:30 a.m. apparently due to poor visibility.

The tractor-trailer smashed into a motorcycle and a Ford Expedition. The 47-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Expedition was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

A second crash occurred in a northbound lane just south of the first involving a Chrysler minivan, a Toyota RAV-4, a Dodge Charger and a Ford pickup truck. All occupants of the vehicles were taken to hospitals. Their injuries were not considered serious.

No one was apparently injured in a third crash that occurred in the southbound lanes, involving a Mitsubishi car and a Ford Taurus.

Authorities claim the poor visibility that caused the stream of collisions was the result of fog or smoke from a controlled burn about 1.5 miles away.

The series of collisions remain under investigation.

Florida Dog Bite Attorneys Whittel & Melton :: Dog Euthanized After Attacking Four People in West Palm Beach

A dog was euthanized Thursday evening after wounding four people in West Palm Beach, including a city firefighter and a 3-year-old girl.

According to the director for Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, the dog’s brain tissue will be tested for rabies as a precaution.

The dog, a cane corso mix, apparently bit a 13-year-old girl on the arm around 6 p.m. Shortly after the attack, West Palm Beach Fire-Rescue crews arrived at the scene.

The dog appeared to have attacked its owner’s grandmother before biting the girl, but the woman did not require medical attention.

While Fire-Rescue crews were treating the girl, the dog apparently freed itself from restraints and nipped the buttocks of a 3-year-old girl. A firefighter quickly intervened and was bitten on the forearm and hand as he attempted to separate the girl from the dog.

The firefighter and the two girls were taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.

The 13-year-old does not live at the residence and it is unclear whether the 3-year-old lives there.

Following the attack, the dog was classified as vicious and the owner was not allowed to keep it. It is unknown if the owner will face any charges stemming from the attack.
The director for Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control claims the owner was in violation of some regulations. The dog was apparently not current on its rabies vaccinations, and it appears the dog was not licensed, which is a civil infraction. The dog also apparently was not vaccinated, which is a violation of state and local law. It was unknown whether the dog had been sterilized, as required by local ordinance.
