Maryland Bail Bonds needs Reform

Currently in Maryland there are far too many bail bondsman working with a longer criminal history than many of the inmates they bail out. In todays bail bonds market it is hard to distinguish between the legitimate and those that are not. I have heard countless horror stories of people claiming to be bondsmen working for some obscure company knocking on people's doors asking for bail money. Unfortunately, this takes place every day and there is little to no action to put an end to all of it.

The bail bonds industry in Maryland is one that is poorly regulated. The Maryland Insurance Administration does not have the man power to check on the "ma and pa money laundering bail bonds" shops on what seems like every corner in Baltimore City. We now even have disbarred attorneys joining the Bail Bonds fraternity in Maryland. (And somehow this makes the front page of the Baltimore Sun). It seems like everybody is or wants to be a bail bondsman today and unfortunately for the general public most all treat the bail bonds business like a street game rather than focusing on what Bail is intended for.

Some bail bondsman do not even require paperwork be done or issue receipts for money they have been given for bail. How can this be allowed to go on? How much longer can we let unlicensed bondsmen get away with murder in this industry? Who is going to take a stand and stop the people that help shed such a negative light on peoples view on bail in Maryland? Some of these questions are more difficult to answer than others.

In order to help reform the bail industry, the families pursuing the bondsmen need to take their time in making clear and concise decisions on which bail bonds company to deal with. Many people are ignorant to the way the bail system works and for this reason should not get involved with a particular company too hastily. The insurance administration itself needs to own up to what is going on and not ignore the illegal practices of a large majority of people claiming to be licensed bail agents. Most importantly "bail agents" should be held accountable for posting their own bails and be liable for their defendants to appear in court. Currently a significant number of bail bondsmen are not responsible for either of the two previously mentioned items.

Bail Bondsmen in Maryland are often viewed in the same light as many of the alleged criminals that we bail out by highly ranked state officials, judges, and commissioners. When bail is executed in the fashion it was intended we become a vital part of the community by securing the appearances of the defendants we bail out. And for those that fail to appear, we apprehend them in a timely manner providing public safety to the community at large.
Pay for Bail Bonds via Online Payments

Big Boyz Bail Bonds of Baltimore Maryland is proud to announce the newest and greatest addition to our Online Bail Bonds Website. We are the first and only Bail Bond agency in Maryland to feature the ability to make online payments for you and your families' bails. Paying for Bail Bonds has never been easier or more secure now that online payments have become an added feature. Big Boyz uses PayPal online payment service to process your bail payments, and does not require that you create a PayPal account to use it!

This new bail payment feature eliminates the need for you to waste gas driving down to the office to make a payment, thus reducing the Big Boyz Bail Bonds carbon footprint on our planet. It also eliminates paper by using an e-mail receipt system rather than the standard paper receipt. This will make organizing your receipts and tracking your balance a far less daunting task. Finally, it will save you money on unnecessary stamps you have used to mail checks or money orders in the past. This payment option is most convenient for clients who live out of town and can't make it to our office but have a friend of family member being detained in a Maryland Detention Center.

We hope you will both enjoy and take advantage of this new and easy-to-use payment method. In addition to providing the lowest possible rates for bails, we are constantly brainstorming new ways to make arranging bail for a loved one as painless and convenient as possible. To use this new service, simply visit our Baltimore Bail Bonds website at and click the PAY ONLINE link on the right side of the home screen.

Maryland Bounty Hunters pick up Defendant on VOP Warrant

Maryland Bail Bonds Company Big Boyz Bail Bonds was contacted recently in regards to a defendant that was bailed out of Baltimore City Jail. We were contacted by the person that signed for this bond who was nervous about the defendant not appearing for his criminal court case.

We were informed by the signer of the bond that our defendant recently got "cold-feet" when it was time for him to show up for his Violation of Probation (VOP) hearing. We were told that he dropped him off at the court house and that the defendant never made it to the court house doors and decided to go on the run.

Our signer was clearly concerned by this and figured that he would not appear for the case that we posted bail for so he did the correct thing by contacting us. Bail Bondsmen in Maryland are primarily concerned with warrants for Failure to Appear (FTA). Even though this warrant wasn't for skipping on our bond there was clear concern that he would likely miss court so we acted quickly to serve the FTA warrant for missing his VOP hearing.

Most people think a bail bondman's sole purpose in Maryland is to provide the key for potential violent criminals to hit the streets again. This is not our purpose. Our purpose is to bring defendants we bail out back to court for justice to be served by a judge. Big Boyz Bail Bonds provides a valuable service to the community at large. We make sure that if defendants fail to appear we bring them back into the rightful custody of the state.

Bounty Hunters in Baltimore City Successfully Apprehend Defendant on the Run

Recently, Baltimore City Bail Bonds Company Big Boyz Bail Bonds received a bond forfeiture notice for a defendant with a long history of Failure to Appears (FTA's). We posted 3 bonds for this defendant, a $15,000, $10,000, and $1,500 cash bond respectively. (Didn't know we could post cash bails? See our blog on our ability to post a cash required bond!)

This defendant inevitably forfeited 2 out of the 3 bonds. A representative of Big Boyz Bail Bonds made contact with the defendant to try and arrange for him to turn himself in to our custody. The wanted subject had no interest at all claiming he had already been to court on all of his cases. This statement by the defendant was of course incorrect.

So our hunt began to bring this defendant back in the custody of the Baltimore City Jail. Our hunt ended in just 1 hour time from receiving the bond forfeiture notice from the courts and after making contact with the defendant. The hunt ended in a chase on foot that spread over 10 blocks until finally the defendant was apprehended.

When Big Boyz Bail Bonds receives a bond-forfeiture notice from the courts we take it personally because we are financially liable to produce the defendants we bail out for court. If we fail to do so we must pay the full sum penalty of the bail to the courts. This is a service that the State of Maryland cannot afford to lose. Without bail agencies such as Big Boyz Bail Bonds there would be many more fugitives running the streets presenting danger to the community at large.

Many fly-by-night bail bonds companies make little to no effort at all to hunt their fugitives out on bail. Instead, they use "the system" to their advantage and hope the person eventually gets re-incarcerated on their own. This method is contrary to public safety and allows the fugitive to remain on the run for a longer than necessary amount of time. It is this very issue that gives bail bondsmen in Maryland a bad name.

Bail Bonds companies such as these need to become extinct from our industry so bail bonds companies such as Big Boyz can offer legitimate public safety service to the State of Maryland.
For Baltimore Bail Bondsmen - Bail Review is a Double Edged Sword

Bail Bondsmen in Baltimore City are constantly faced with many challenges on a daily basis. One of the most difficult aspects of the bail bonds business is satisfying our clients by successfully posting bail for a defendant before there bail review hearing. For those that do not know, all inmates that are arrested are given a bail by a district court commissioner and if they aren't bailed out by the following business-day they appear in front of a judge where their bond can be raised, lowered, or remain the same. Many families are concerned about bails being raised which put more pressure on the bondsman to make the bail happen before bail review time.

Unfortunately for Maryland Bail Bondsmen there are many factors that make dealing with bail review a nightmare. Recently, our Anne Arundel County Bail Bonds office had a client come in to bail out her son. Her son was arrested the previous day and she came in at approximately 9:30am the following day to do paperwork and arrange for the $25,000 bail to be posted. The cut-off time for bail to be posted in Anne Arundel County is 10:30am. The client finished everything with our Anne Arundel County Bail Bondsman by 10am which gave us roughly 30 minutes to post the bail before her son would be taken in front of a judge for bail review.

Our Glen Burnie Bail Bondsman successfully posted the bail in just 15 minutes after our client left our Anne Arundel County Bail Bonds office. You might be thinking that impeccable service was provided in this instance by Big Boyz Bail Bonds. The only problem that occurred was that even though the bail was posted they still took our clients son to his bail review hearing. At the hearing, our client's son was released on his own recognizance. Since the defendant was released at bail review our client demanded our paperwork be canceled and asked for a refund. Unfortunately since the bond was paid prior to bail review we were unable to give her a refund.

One might think that this is unfair for our client. From the perspective of a customer it is undoubtedly unfair. However, for a bail bondsman, what are we to do? Our job is to provide prompt and reliable service. Bail Bondsmen are not mind readers. What if the bail was raised to $100,000 prior to us posting the bail? Then our client would be even more upset to have to pay more money. Bail Review is nothing but a catch 22 for a Maryland Bail Bondsman.

In Baltimore City we had a customer that wanted to bail someone out on a $2,600 bond. We had a Baltimore City Bail Bondsmen at central booking from 8:30am all the way up until the time we were finally given the go ahead by the records department to post the bail at 12:55pm. The only problem aside from having to wait for the jail to give us our paperwork after 4 hours of waiting was that they took the defendant to bail review at 12:45pm. At the bail review hearing the judge raised the bail to $75,000. Unfortunately, this was too high for our customer to post and even though we were there and ready to post the bail at $2,600 the jail was not ready with the paperwork for us to be able to post it.

Each month, a variety of businesses in the greater Baltimore and greater Washington areas turn to its pages for features, case-study advice and trend analysis, all with a uniquely local flavor. SmartCEO is read by more than 31,000 business owners in Baltimore and Washington DC.

Local Maryland News Station Gives a Glimpse Inside Baltimore City Central Booking

Just the other day, WJZ Channel 13 news station took a visit to the ever dreadful Baltimore City Central Booking facility. It was interesting to hear one officer inside the jail describe the booking process as a "fast pace, high energy type of operation." I believe our clients bailed out of Baltimore City Central Booking would say the contrary!

Click Here to read the WJZ story on Balimore City Central Booking.

Click Here to view the WJZ video on Baltimore City Central Booking.

In fact, there is nothing fast pace or high energy that gets done inside that jail. Our Baltimore City Bail Bonds office sends licensed bail agents to the facility on a regular basis and we experience firsthand the rigors that are involved with completing bails for our clients. Baltimore City Central Booking is the only jail in Maryland that one cannot post bond for a defendant immediately after seeing the district court commissioner. Anywhere else in Maryland, once the defendant has been seen by the commissioner and been given a bail their case becomes active and bond can be posted. In Baltimore City there is an average of around 12 to 16 hours after one sees the commissioner before their bail bond can be paid.

To Central Bookings credit, their task is not necessarily a simple one. Due to the high volume of inmates being processed on a daily basis and employees manually processing their paperwork into their "Jail System" adds to the overall time delay.

One of the central issues however with Baltimore City's jail system is that there is no real management person as a regular and forceful presence on a given shift. This generally leads to employees taking extended periods of down time due to nobody watching over them. As the saying goes, "when the cats away, the mice shall play."

One of the most frustrating elements of Central Booking is trying to get a hold of someone that can give you accurate bail information. Before Big Boyz Bail Bonds makes any attempts at posting bail for someone we verify if the incarcerated inmate has any additional warrants or detainers in place. Unfortunately you could try for hours to get through to someone without getting any kind of a response. To make matters worse, when you finally do get in contact with someone you can be thrown on hold or transferred to another employee in the facility.

WJZ did a nice job giving viewers a glimpse of inside the jail. But what many don't realize is that some of the real horrors of Baltimore City Central Booking take place when one makes attempt at posting the bail bond itself.
Big Boyz Bail Bonds Goes the Extra Mile for their Clients

Recently, Big Boyz Bail Bonds went to the extreme for one of their clients incarcerated in Towson Detention Center. The defendant was being held on a $100,000 bail. His family did not have the means to post his bail; however, there was a long time family friend that wanted to assist in the matter. There was only one problem; the family friend was incarcerated as well.

Big Boyz Bail Bonds was contacted by the long time family friend through a collect call which many bail bondsmen in Maryland do NOT accept! The family friend wanted his banker to issue a check from his account to Big Boyz Bail Bonds; however, the bank's policy would not allow this. Therefore, the only option would be for the bank to issue a check payable to the family friend and have him endorse it over to our licensed bail agent. Most bail bonds companies would not jump through all these hoops in order to help out a client, but our 24 hour reliable bail bonds company always goes the extra mile for our clients.

The long time family friend's bank issued the check, but this was only the beginning. Our bail agent now had to figure out how to get the family friend to endorse the check and sign a receipt all while being incarcerated. The only possible way to accomplish this was to have the family friend put the bail agent on his personal visitation list. Luckily for all parties involved, he was able to get in contact with one of the supervisors on duty and put our bondsman on his visitation list.

The never-arrested-before Maryland Bail Agent Recounted his experience inside the jail that day:

After emptying everything out of my pockets I was frisked and searched to make sure I had nothing else on me. I was taken to an elevator and was directed to take it down three floors, get off and walk down the long hallway until I reached a giant metal door. Walking down this hallway reminded me of the movie "The Shinning;" the same door after door appeared with no one in sight. Eventually, I reached the end of the hallway where I was taken into a room to wait for the defendant. They brought in the defendant, an older white man wearing a ripped jail jumpsuit. There was a glass partition between us, but if he wanted to he would have had no difficulty jumping over top to attack me. There were no guards in the room with us, but he remained seated in his chair. He proceeded to explain his situation to me as well as his fondness for his family friend. I slid all the documents underneath the partition for him to sign and he did so without any hesitation. I then left the room and felt as if I was running out of that place. It is definitely not some place where I would want to end up.

The bail agent informed our 24 hour bail bonds location that everything was taken care of. He then went over to the Towson District Court Commissioners Office to post the bail for the Defendant.

Fortunately for all parties involved this process was able to take place without any major glitch. The defendant was later released that night, and surely owed a debt of gratitude to his longtime family friend. Big Boyz Bail Bonds is in the business of helping people get out of jail so that they can get home and fight their case. It does not matter how strange the situation may seem, if we can help, we will do whatever we can to help ensure your freedom.

Big Boyz Bail Bonds Attends and Supports the Sitting Judges of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Bailey, Brobst and Nagle to Retain their Seats on the Bench

Big Boyz Bail Bonds recently attended a fundraiser for the Sitting Judges of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. Judges Bailey, Brobst and Nagle are asking for your support and re-elect them to the circuit Court for Baltimore County.

The kick off campaign was held at Martins West from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Countless attorneys and prosecutors attended this event. Our 24 hour Maryland Bail Bonds Company regularly attends events such as this to show our care and support of the Justice System. It was a pleasure to speak with defense and state's attorney's and give them a better understanding of just what it is that we do as Bondsmen and why it is so important for us to continue our much needed roll in the Justice System.

What is a kickoff campaign? When there are vacancies in the Baltimore County Circuit Court the Governor appoints Judges who are highly qualified to serve on the bench until the next election. When the next election occurs, those Circuit Court Judges who wish to continue to serve must run for a 15 year term in a special non-partisan election.

Recently appointed Judges Sherrie R. Bailey, Ann Brobst and John Nagle are each running to be retained as Circuit Court Judges for Baltimore County in the 2010 election.

If you are interested in getting involved by volunteering or contributing please visit their website at www.sittingjudges.com or check out their facebook page and become a fan.

Big Boyz Bail Bonds attends and supports The Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement.

What is MAAWLE?

The Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement Association is a professional organization of law enforcement officers and individuals promoting women in law enforcement working or residing within the states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania.

This weekend Big Boyz Bail Bonds attended this great event located at the Pier 5 Hotel downtown Baltimore, Maryland. Big Boyz Bail Bonds had such a great time at this event and met so many wonderful women in Law enforcement who risk their lives every day for their job. It was nice to be able to talk with and answer different questions and misconceptions police had about bail bonds.

We are certainly able to relate to women in law enforcement as Big Boyz Bail Bonds is proud to boast that over 50% of our staff is made up of women. One might not believe it given our name, but women play a vital part in making the everyday occurrences in our business run smoothly.

We were also able play a round of golf at Grey Stone Golf Course with groups of women in Law enforcement. We had a great time on the course besides it being so cold that Sunday.

The event also had a room with different venders set up and Big Boyz Bail Bonds was honored to be asked to set up a booth with our infamous t-shirts, Big Boyz Pens and key chains. They were such a big hit amongst the police who said they see our pens and shirts everywhere.

This event is held every year but not always in the same place. Every year this event is in a new location between one of the Mid-Atlantic States. If you would like more information on the Association and like to support it, please go to their website: www.maawle.org
Big Boyz Bail Bonds Supports WelcomeToBaltimoreHun.com

Just the other day, our Baltimore City Bail Bonds Company was contacted by the fine people that run WelcomeToBaltimoreHun.com.
Big Boyz Bail Bonds Lends a Hand to a Local Maryland Bail Bondsman

Maryland Bail Bondsmen are in the business of making sure that the defendants we bail out appear for court. If we fail to produce the defendants for court we become responsible for the total amount of the bond we posted. Therefore we take a high volume of risk and have been burned by defendants of ours before. See our wanted fugitives page as an example.

Recently Big Boyz Bail Bonds bailed out a defendant on an arrest warrant from 2003 out of Washington County Maryland. When the family member came in to post the bail they told us that the defendant had an outstanding warrant for Frederick County Maryland. When we did a record check for the defendant, we noticed that a bondsman posted a $2,500 bond for this defendant in August of 2002 and he failed to appear for court in February of 2003.

The bondsman who posted this bail was held responsible to pay the district court of Maryland for Frederick County $2,500 in August of 2003. Fortunately for this bondsman, our bail bonds company contacted the insurance company associated with this bail and informed them of the defendant's incarceration. Due to this, the bail bondsman will be reimbursed the $2,500 in a matter of some time.

Even though the bail bonds business in Maryland is extremely competitive we think it is still important to help other bondsmen, whom are liable for their bond forfeitures, and inform them of fugitive defendants that become incarcerated in other jurisdictions. Big Boyz Bail Bonds takes great pride in performing a legitimate service for our community so tax payers don't have to pay out more money to a potential pre-trial supervision program in lieu of bail bonds.
Maryland Bail Bonds offering Cash Rewards for Wanted Fugitives

Maryland Bail Bonds Company Big Boyz Bail Bonds has revamped their Wanted Fugitives Page and is offering cash rewards to any information leading to their captures. Due to the sheer volume of bails that our bail bonds company executes in a given year we undoubtedly rack up our fair share of bond forfeitures.

It is important to understand that not everyone misses court on purpose. Some people simply confuse the dates or run into issues with transportation. There are really a multitude of reasons somebody can fail to appear for a court date after posting bond. Fortunately for us, many are willing to turn themselves in and take care of the bench warrant. However, there are many that miss court and make every effort possible to avoid our bail bonds company in hopes of never being captured.

Over time, we will be adding new photos and new wanted posters for our fugitives on our website. Please check our website frequently and feel free to leave anonymous tips on possible locations or information concerning one of our bail jumpers. If information you provide us leads to an eventual capture you will be rewarded handsomely.

Any information provided will be kept entirely confidential for your protection. We do not suggest that anybody make any attempts at physically capturing any of our fugitives as they may be considered armed and dangerous. It is important to only contact Big Boyz Bail Bonds and speak to a licensed representative from our company.
