Head-On Collision Results in Fatal Crash on MO 5 in Wright County

When one driver crossed the centerline on MO 5 in Wright County, he crashed into oncoming traffic, which resulted in the death of the victim and serious injuries for the at-fault driver.

On May 7, 2012 at approximately 7:30 P.M., 62-year-old Arthur Scott from Lebanon, Missouri was heading north on MO 5 two miles north of Mansfield in a 2001 Chevrolet Truck. At said time and place, William Hester, age 23, from Republic, Missouri was heading south in a 1994 Chevrolet.

The crash occurred when Hester crossed over the centerline and crashed into Scott in a head-on collision.

Hester was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Coroner Wright County Sheriff Adler. He was transported to Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Mansfield, Missouri. Scott suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by EMS and then flown by Life Line One to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.

Scott's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Mansfield Towing of Mansfield, Missouri. Hester's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Elliott's Towing of Macomb, Missouri.

This crash was investigated by Sergeant S. L. Grass of Troop G in Wright County.

This was Troop G's fatality number 12 for the year 2012 as compared to number 9 this same time in 2011.

U-Haul Trailer Crash Causes Fatality on Interstate 70

When one driver lost control of his vehicle because his attached U-Haul trailer began to weave on Interstate 70 in Warren County, he crossed the centerline and crashed into oncoming traffic, which resulted in the death of the victim.

On May 7, 2012 at approximately 3:30 P.M., 31-year-old Jeremy Mitchell from Parma, Ohio was heading west on Interstate 70 in Warren County while operating a 2001 Honda Accord that was pulling a U-Haul Trailer. At said time and place, Alanna Gierer from Warrenton, Missouri was heading east in a 2001 Saturn.

The crash occurred as the U-Haul Trailer started weaving, which caused Mitchell to lose control of the vehicle. Mitchell began to slide, ran off the right side of the roadway, and travelled down an embankment between the interstate and the north service road. When Mitchell crashed into a ditch, the U-Haul trailer became detached. The trailer overturned and came to rest off the north side of the north service road. Meanwhile, when Gierer entered the eastbound lane, she crashed into Mitchell in a head-on collision.

Gierer was flown from the scene of the crash by Arch Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was pronounced dead at the hospital by Dr. Ann Peick of Mercy Hospital and the next-of-kin was notified. It has not been reported that Mitchell suffered injuries as a result of this crash.

Mitchell's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by May Service Towing. Gierer's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by May Service Towing.

This investigation was led by Sergeant G. C. Swartz and assisted by Warrenton Fire Department and Warren County Sheriff Department.

Rear-End Collision Leads to Crashing into a Church and Serious Injuries for Victims

When one driver crashed into the rear of another driver on MO 13 in St. Clair County, the at-fault driver then crashed into a church, and the victims suffered serious injuries as a result.

On May 7, 2012 at approximately 10:30 A.M., 86-year-old Eva White of Kansas City, Missouri was heading north on MO 13 one mile north of Osceola, Missouri in a 2006 Buick. White had one passenger - Wilma Hodges, age 83, of Raytown, Missouri. At said time and place, Joel Rinne, age 23, from Steinauer, Nebraska was heading north in a 1993 Dodge Ram.

The crash occurred as Rinne crashed into the rear of White's vehicle. White's vehicle travelled through the median into the southbound lanes and then back into the median. Rinne's vehicle travelled off the right side of the roadway and crashed into a church.

Victim Eva White suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene of the crash to Research Medical Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. White's passenger, Wilma Hodges, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Research Medical Hospital. It has not been reported that Rinne suffered injuries as a result of this crash.

White's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Mike's Towing of Collins, Missouri. Rinne's vehicle received total damage and was removed from the scene of the crash by the owner.

This investigation was led by Trooper M. Cook of Troop D in St. Clair County.

Three Fatalities in Pemiscot County

In Pemiscot County, on Interstate 55 a single-vehicle crash kills three residents of Jackson, Mississippi after ejecting and rolling several times.

On May 13, 2012 at approximately 3:53 p.m., Cherrina Gaines, age 28 and of Jackson, Mississippi was operating a 1999 Ford and traveling in the southbound direction on Interstate 55. Cherrina had nine other passengers in her vehicle during the time of the crash; Brandaeja (13) and Javon (0) Cason, Demaggio (10) and Laressa (33) Gaines, Destiny Hall (25), Joevion Moore (6), Cory (9) and Cody (4) Turner, and Dieon Williams (0). All participants are residents of Jackson, Mississippi.

At that said time and place, Cherrina Gaines was traveling southbound on Interstate 55 when her vehicle's tire blew out, ran off the road, and rolled over multiple times. Several people were ejected from the vehicle and according to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, no one was found to be wearing their seat belts during the time of the crash.

Demaggio Gaines, Javon and Brandaeja were all pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Pemiscot coroner, Jim Brimhall. The three were transported by coroner, Jim Brimhall, to the Pemiscot County morgue. Cherrina and Larissa Gaines received serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital. Destiny Hall suffered serious injuries and was flown by air evacuation to the Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Cody and Cory Turner, Dieon Williams, and Joevion Moore received serious injuries and were all transported by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital.

Cherrina's 1999 Ford received total damages from the crash and was towed by Ace Wrecker to Hayti, Missouri.

The official cause of the crash has not been confirmed, but according to officers at the crash site, evidence indicates that the tires on the vehicle were insufficient and possibly the overcrowded vehicle caused the accident.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop E. This is troop E's 21st fatality for 2012.

Ralls County, Missouri T-Bone Crash Seriously Injures Motorcycle Driver

Palmyra, Missouri motorcyclist is seriously injured when another vehicle failed to yield, resulting in a t-bone crash.

On May 13, 2012 at approximately 4:00 p.m., 31 year old Joseph Sodari of Palmyra, Missouri was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle driving northbound on US 61 in New London. At that said time and place, 74 year old Doris Mims of Hannibal, Missouri was operating a 2000 Ford traveling westbound on Fifth Street.

At that time and place, Mims pulled her vehicle into the path of Sodari's motorcycle, causing him to collide with the driver's side of her vehicle.

Motorcyclist Joseph Sodari was transported from the scene of the crash to Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri with serious injuries. The at-fault driver, Doris Mims, was also taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries received in the crash. Both drivers were wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash.

Sodari's motorcycle received total damage in the crash and was towed from the scene by Heartland Towing in Hannibal, Missouri. The at-fault vehicle received extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Tallman's Towing in Hannibal, Missouri. Both drivers possessed insurance coverage for their vehicles at the time of the crash.

This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Paul Behrens who was assisted by New London Fire Department and the Ralls County Sheriff's Department.

Crash Injures Four Jefferson County Residents

In Jefferson County, a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon moderately injures four Jefferson County residents.

On May 10, 2012 at approximately 3:05 p.m., Lisa Mitchell, age 51 and of House Springs, Missouri was operating a 2001 Ford Escape and traveling in the north direction of Old Highway 21. Michael, age 51, Lisa's husband was her passenger during the time of the crash. Catherine Hartsell, age 18 and of Barnhart, Missouri was operating a 1999 Pontiac Grand-am and traveling in the northbound direction. Gabriella Debold, age 15 and of Barnhart, Missouri was Catherine's passenger.

At that said time and place, both vehicles were traveling northbound on Old Highway 21.
The crash occurred when Lisa was stopped in anticipation to make a left turn as Catherine Hartsell failed to stop and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of Lisa's. From the impact of the crash, Lisa's vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all participants of this crash were found to be wearing their seat belts.

Lisa and Michael Mitchell both received moderate injuries from the crash and were taken to St. Anthony's Medical Center by Rock Township ambulance. Catherine Hartsell and her passenger, Gabriella Debold, received moderate injuries and both were transported by the Rock Township ambulance to St. Anthony's Medical Center.

As a result from the crash, Lisa Mitchell's 2001 Ford Escape and Catherine Hartsell's 1999 Pontiac both received total damages and was towed by Leo's B & T Towing.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C.

Three Injured in Head-on Collision

In Henry County, three people are injured after crossing the center line and colliding head-on with another vehicle.

On May 10, 2012 at approximately 10:20 a.m., Raymond Bryant, age 73 and of Montrose, Missouri was operating a 2003 Chevrolet and traveling in the eastbound direction of US 52. Henry Hughes, age 79 and from Montrose, Missouri was Raymond's passenger during the time of the crash. Dennis Miller, age 37 and of Pleasant Valley, Missouri was operating a 2008 Freightliner and traveling in the westbound direction of US 52.

At that said time and place, Bryant was driving east and Miller was traveling west on Missouri highway 52. The collision occurred when Bryant crossed the center line, while cresting a hill, and caused him to collide head-on with Miller's freightliner.

Dennis Miller received minor injuries from the collision and according to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dennis refused medical treatment. Raymond Bryant received serious injuries and was lifeflighted to St. Lukes Hospital and then later transported to the Truman Medical Center. Dennis' passenger, Henry Hughes, received moderate injuries and was lifeflighted to Research Medical Center in Kansas City. According to the crash report, Raymond Bryant and Dennis Miller were wearing seat belts during the time of the crash but Henry Hughes was not.

Dennis Miller's 2008 Freightliner received moderate damages from the collision and was towed by Golden Valley Wrecker. Raymond Bryant's 2003 Chevrolet received total damages and was towed by Meredith's Tow.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop A. This crash is still undergoing investigation with charges pending.

Fatality Crash in Stoddard County

In Stoddard County, the passenger of a vehicle is killed and the driver is seriously injured after ejecting from their vehicle.

On May 3, 2012 at approximately 11:46 p.m., Donald Smith, age 35 and a resident of Marble Hill, Missouri was operating a 1999 Mercury and traveling in the eastbound direction. Amanda Allenbaugh, age 28 and of De Soto, Missouri was in the passenger seat during the time of the crash.

At that said time and place, Donald was traveling eastbound on route O, three miles east of Advance, Missouri when he lost control of the vehicle while trying to operate a curve. The vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned striking several road signs and a utility pole. Donald and Amanda were both ejected from the vehicle.

Amanda Allenbaugh was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Stoddard County coroner, Aaron Mathis. Amanda was transported by Stoddard County coroner to Rainey Mathis funeral home in Dexter, Missouri. Donald Smith received serious injuries from the crash and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Donald and Amanda were not wearing their seat belts during the time of the crash.

Donald's 1999 Mercury received total damages from the crash and was towed by Allen Christian Wrecker of Dexter.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop E. This is troop E's 17th fatality for 2012.

Failure to Stop Causes Injuries on Route YY in Saline County

When one driver failed to stop at a stop sign on Route YY in Saline County, he crashed into oncoming traffic and caused moderate to serious injuries for the victim driver and his passenger.

On April 30, 2012 at approximately 4:00 P.M., 24-year-old Russell Long from Marshall, Missouri was heading east in a 2001 Dodge on Route YY at 200th Road in Saline County. At said time and place, John Goodman, age 46, from Sweet Springs, Missouri was heading south and operating a 2006 Dodge. Goodman had one passenger - Stephanie Goodman, age 43, from Sweet Springs, Missouri.

The crash occurred when Long failed to stop at a stop sign. He crashed into Goodman's vehicle on the front passenger side. Goodman's vehicle overturned and came to rest on its top.

Victim driver John Goodman suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by Saline County EMS to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, Missouri. John Goodman's passenger, Stephanie Goodman, suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by Saline County EMS to Fitzgibbon Hospital. She was then transported by air ambulance to University of Columbia Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Russell's vehicle received minor damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Cadwell's Towing of Marshall, Missouri. Goodman's vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Cadwell's Towing.

This investigation continues and is led by Trooper L. Dancy and assisted by Saline County Deputies and Marshall Police Department. Charges are pending.

Motorcyclist Collides with Deer on Route M

In Morgan County, a man receives serious injuries after striking a deer and ejecting from his motorcycle on Wednesday evening.

On May 2, 2012 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Charles Arney, age 55 and of Lake Winnebago, Missouri was operating a 1995 Honda Goldwing motorcycle and traveling in the westbound direction of route M.

At that said time and place, Charles was traveling westbound on route M, one mile west of Missouri 135, when a deer hit him. Arney lost control of his motorcycle, overturned, skidded off the right side of the roadway, and was then ejected from his motorcycle.

Charles received serious injuries from the collision with the deer and was taken to the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri for medical treatment. According to the crash report for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Arney was wearing a helmet during the time of the crash.

Charles' 1995 Honda motorcycle received total damages and was taken by Don's Towing in Sedalia, Missouri.

This deer crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop F.

Man in Critical Condition after Motorcycle Accident

In Jefferson County, a motorcyclist is seriously injured after a head-on collision with another vehicle.

On May 3, 2012 at approximately 4:45 p.m., Clint Barton, age 52 and of Fenton, Missouri was operating a 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling in the northbound direction. Linda Coe, age 60 and of House Springs, Missouri was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and traveling in the southbound direction.

At that said time and place, Linda was traveling southbound on route MM when she was attempting to make a left turn onto Woodridge Drive. The crash collision occurred when Clint was approaching from the northbound direction and as she was turning onto Woodridge she traveled into the path of Clint. Linda collided with Clint head-on as she then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a stop sign. From the impact of the collision, Clint was ejected from his motorcycle.

Clint received serious injuries from the collision and was transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital by Survival Flight helicopter for his critical condition. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Linda Coe was uninjured and did not seek medical treatment.

Clint's 1992 Harley received total damages and Linda's 2008 Cobalt received extensive damages. Both were towed by Northwest Towing.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C.

Aaron W. Smith is helping to ensure the health and livelihood of Boone County children by making a $250 donation to The Mid-Missouri Food Bank's Buddy Pack Program.

Aaron Smith presented a $250 to The Mid-Missouri Food Bank to help fund their Buddy Pack Program in Boone County, Missouri. The Food Bank partners with elementary schools in the 32 counties it serves to provide Buddy Packs to school children. Buddy Packs are backpacks filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food for children to take home with them over the weekend and holiday breaks to supplement their meals when there is not enough to eat at home.

Around 55,000 students in the food bank's service area qualify for free or reduced school meals. For many of these children, the breakfast and lunch they receive at school offer the only source of reliable nutrition; they are at risk of hunger over the weekends. The Buddy Pack Program aims to alleviate that risk.

The Food Bank partners with elementary schools in each of the 32 counties it serves to provide Buddy Packs to school children. Buddy Packs are backpacks filled with kid-friendly, nutritious food that students take home over the weekend or holiday periods to supplement their meals when there is not enough to eat at home. After the weekend, the kids bring their empty Buddy Pack back to school to be refilled by local volunteers. During the 2011-2012 school year, the Buddy Pack Program helped feed around 8,600 children each week, up from 6,500 in 2010-11.
