At the time of the impact, the passengers in the Odyssey minivan included Rushil Barri’s cousin, his cousin’s wife, the two children, and their in-laws, who were all visiting from their homes in Alpharetta, Georgia. The crash claimed the lives of Barri and five of the passengers, including the two children. The deceased children were identified as Krithik Potabathula, 10, and Nishidha Potabathula, 9.

Only one of the passengers survived, identified by officials as a 43-year-old man. The survivor sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital.

According to a report in The Press-Enterprise, the major injury pedestrian accident occurred on the night of Aug. 15 at Orange Avenue and Redlands Avenue. Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials said the man was walking west on Orange and tried to cross Redlands when a gray sedan going northbound struck him. As they crossed the highway, they were struck by a light-colored sedan that was southbound. When officers arrived they found Isaacs with life-threatening injuries. His wife’s injuries were described as “moderate.” The driver fled and the police said the car likely had front-end damage. The couple was transported to an area hospital where Isaacs succumbed to his injuries. His wife was treated and released.

The driver, identified as 18-year-old Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca, turned herself in and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit and run. Police believe speed was a contributing factor. The speed limit in that stretch of the highway is 35 mph.

The driver of the SUV was identified as 32-year-old Margarita Rosales. She was booked on suspicion of manslaughter, DUI, and two counts of felony hit and run. The investigation is ongoing.

According to a report on Patch.com, the fatal crash involved a box truck, the woman’s Nissan Versa, and four other cars at the Dutton Avenue off-ramp. California Highway Patrol officials said the female driver of the Versa was extricated from the vehicle with major injuries when they arrived at the scene.

Fatality and Injuries in Santa Rosa Truck Accident

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she died from her injuries. CHP’s preliminary investigation shows that the delivery box truck was traveling east on SR-12 approaching Dutton Avenue at about 50-55 mph. The Versa was in front of the box truck in the right lane and was traveling under 10 mph, CHP investigators said. Officials said the driver of the box truck failed to notice the slower traffic ahead.

At the last moment, the truck driver swerved to the left to avoid the Nissan. However, the front of the box truck hit the rear left side of the Nissan, which pushed the vehicle toward the right shoulder where it overturned onto a guardrail. The box truck continued out of control along eastbound SR-12 and crashed into four more cars before it overturned onto its side.

The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Some of the four other drivers also sustained similar injuries. CHP is asking anyone who has information about this crash to contact the Santa Rosa CHP office at 707-588-1400.
