New Bedford, Massachusetts: Local Woman Killed in Accident on Route 18

March 2, 2015: Yesterday morning, Theresa Suprenant, 22, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained as the passenger in a single car accident, which occurred on Route 18 in New Bedford, near Elm Street. The driver was a 19 year old woman, also from New Bedford, but authorities have not yet released her name.

According to police, the driver swerved to avoid snow in the roadway and collided with a guardrail, which caused the car to overturn. Suprenant was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was transported by New Bedford emergency medical workers to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by Massachusetts State Police in conjunction with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.  As of today, no criminal charges have been filed.
