UCLA MOURNS DEATH OF WIDE RECEIVER KILLED IN SAN CLEMENTE CAR V. PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT

UCLA football player, Nick Pasquale, was killed Sunday, September 8, 2013, when, while he was walking, he apparently was struck by a car in San Clemente, California. The car reportedly stopped and the driver was not cited. The specific causes of this fatal pedestrian accident are reportedly still under investigation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Nick was a highly regarded high school athlete at San Clemente High School. At UCLA he was an undersized receiver at 5’7″ and 172 pounds, but was quick, a vocal leader and played in UCLA’s first game this season, a 58-20 victory over Nevada on Saturday, August 31, 2013. That was Nick’s first game ever for UCLA, and so sadly his only game for his university.

Nick was a red shirt freshman, also contributing to UCLA’s success by playing on UCLA’s scout team against its starting defense.

According to Bleacher Report, UCLA’s coach, Jim Mora, stated: “(Nick) was a great teammate who was loved and respected by his entire team. Our thoughts are with the Pasquale family.”

UCLA was back to practice yesterday at its football practice field, Spaulding Field, located on the UCLA campus, just south of Pauley Pavilion. Players entering practice patted two (2) posters attached to the fence at Spaulding, one stating “Play for each other, play for your brother,” and the other sign stating, “We love you Nick.”

In the upcoming game with Nebraska this Saturday (to be televised in Los Angeles at 9am on ABC, channel 7; both teams are ranked in the top 25), the UCLA Bruin players will wear Nick’s number 36 on their jerseys. Also, Nebraska, the home team, in a special tribute, will place Nick’s number on their helmets and Nebraska also announced it will hold a moment of silence before kickoff in Nick’s memory.

The senior attorney in our firm is a seven year alumnus of UCLA so this tragic loss hits especially home and we all offer our most sincere condolences to the Pasquale family.
