Truck Driver in Morgan Crash Most Likely Sleep Deprived

According to a criminal complaint, the commercial truck driver who caused a crash in New Jersey which critically injured a famous comedian and killed another had not slept in more than 24 hours.

The 35-year-old trucker is free after posting $50,000 and is soon due to appear in court to face charges of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto.

A resident of Georgia, the trucker did not slow for traffic ahead and swerved at the last minute, trying to avoid a crash, according to authorities. Instead, he smashed into the back of the comedian’s chauffeured limo bus, killing one person.

Another passenger, formerly of Saturday Night Live, was in critical condition after the accident. He had to have surgery for a broken leg and suffered a broken nose and several broken ribs. Doctors believe he will be hospitalized for several weeks.

The president of the trucker’s company said in a statement that his company “will take full responsibility” if it is determined their truck was the cause.

Six vehicles were involved in the crash, but there were no other injuries.
