Head-On Collision between Two Motorcyclists Kills One

Earlier this week in Reno, Nevada, one man was killed and another seriously injured after the two were involved in a head-on collision. According to a report by one local news source, the accident occurred around 4:20 in the afternoon and resulted in several lanes of traffic being closed for hours.

Evidently, the motorcyclists were heading in opposite directions when one of them crossed the center median, entering the path of the other. The two motorcycles collided, sending both riders flying off their bikes. Both riders were rushed to the hospital.

One of the riders was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries. The other died of the injuries he sustained in the accident. Police are still investigating the accident and will release a report shortly with their conclusions.

Head-On Collisions on Motorcycles

Head-on collisions are some of the most serious accidents we see. In fact, of all the different kinds of accidents, head-on collisions have one of the lowest survival rates. This is also true when speaking of head-on collisions involving motorcycles.

The accident described above is indeed unique in that the accident involved two motorcycles. Most often, we see head-on collisions between a motorcycle and another vehicle, whether it be a car, truck, or tractor-trailer. However, the legal framework for all the accidents remains the same. The accident victim is entitled to monetary damages from the driver if he or she can prove that the other driver was negligent and that the driver’s negligence was the cause of his or her injuries.

Proving Negligence in Motorcycle Accident Cases

Many cases involving serious or fatal motorcycle accidents are won by proving that the negligent driver was distracted at the time of the accident. There are numerous ways a driver may be distracted while driving. For instance, if the driver is on the phone, texting, talking to a passenger, eating, drinking, or reading the newspaper while driving, his or her attention is elsewhere. It is when a driver’s attention is removed from the road that most accidents occur.

An experienced personal injury attorney knows how to look for the tell-tale signs of a distracted-driving accident by searching cell-phone records, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any and all available video from the moments before the accident. Have You Been Involved in a Serious Motorcycle Accident?

If you or a loved one has recently been involved in a serious Maryland motorcycle accident, you may be entitled to monetary damages based on the other driver’s negligence. However, don’t expect the other driver and that driver’s insurance company to admit fault initially and offer you what you deserve. In many cases, we only secure a fair settlement or verdict after thoroughly researching, briefing, and prepping a case.
