According to court documents, Deron Gatling went to the Anderson Hospital emergency room in Madison County, Illinois, complaining of leg pain. He was seen by doctors Price Omondi and Stephen Coulson. Gatling believed that he had been injured after playing basketball for several hours.
Gatling says that the doctors performed an examination and ordered testing. He further states that neither doctor diagnosed compartment syndrome and rhabdomyolysis. Instead, the doctors gave Gatling pain medication which served to mask his symptoms.
Gatling went to Christian Northeast Hospital the next day where he was properly diagnosed. He underwent several surgeries and a lengthy recovery process. He is now seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
The doctors named in the suit not only deny misdiagnosing Gatling, but also say that Gatling’s injuries were not as severe as he described.
