Plan now for a fun summer in the Triad!

The kids are starting to get antsy. All the final tests in school are coming to an end, and they have checked out for the year. You know what will be coming next: summer break! Last summer your kids always complained that they were bored, or they spent way too much time on their electronic devices. This summer, plan ahead and make it a fun and enjoyable time for both you and your kids.

Let’s all go out to the movies! Over the summer, many Triad area movie theatres offer discounts on afternoon movie tickets. Most movies are anywhere from $1 to $5 and sometimes include a snack and drink along with ticket purchase. Be sure to check out the summer time movie schedules at Cinemark Brassfield Cinemas in Greensboro, Regal Pallidum Theatre in High Point and The Grand in Winston-Salem. Take your kids to a one of a kind movie experience in downtown Greensboro where they will host the Center City Cinema. Movie line-up will be announced soon with showings at the new LeBauer Park in August.

Wet ‘n Wild: It gets hot here in the Triad, and I know the thought of spending your summer days outside is not appealing. But, the Triad is lucky to have one of the best water parks in our back yard. Wet n’ Wild, Emerald Point is open all summer long and you can get season passes to get you through the hottest days. Season passes are a great option because you can go for a few hours to relax or spend the entire day enjoing all the excellent slides and wave pool.

Camp Backyard: Sometimes it is hard to get the car packed with everything to enjoy a camping weekend. So, why not camp in your backyard? You still get the luxury of being close to your bathroom and kitchen, but the kids will love sleeping outside. Show your children how to put up a tent and roll out those sleeping bags. Build a campfire to roast marshmallows, tell fun ghost stories and count the stars. It will be a fun night away from the typical evening summertime routine.

Craft Day on a Rainy Day: Nothing is worse than trying to entertain kids when it is raining over the summer. The internet is full of ideas for rainy day activities. One easy and fun activity everyone can enjoy is balloon ping pong. Take two paper plates and tape a popsicle stick on the plate for a handle, blow up a balloon and play! You can see who can keep the balloon up the longest without touching the floor or just bat it across the room. It is a great way also to get rid of some of the wiggly energy kids have.

Children’s Museum: Both Winston-Salem and Greensboro have Children’s Museums – and they offer season passes. Beat the summer heat or the rain indoors. They both offer fun classes like painting, music and movement, craft projects and story time. The best part is that your children are still keeping their minds active and engaged while on summer break. Also, both the museums also offer summer camps so you can get a break from the kids!

Summertime can be full of fun activities that will create awesome memories for both you and your children. With some preplanning, you will look forward to summer break just as much as your kids do!
