That portion of I-40 was widened not long ago , from west of SR 171 (Mt Juliet Road) to east of SR 109, as part of a design-build contract with Lane Construction Corporation. According to the findings of the examination it is believed that the design-build team did not properly account for storm water runoff or the spread of storm water into lanes of travel. The Tennessee Department of Transportation also believes that the project was not constructed properly for the appropriate amount of water runoff. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has asked the design-builder for an action plan to address these issues. Message boards will be posted and used to warn motorists of potential ponding of water during bad weather until a more permanent solution can be found to resolve the issue. A dedicated HELP unit will also be on-site during weather events to shift traffic as needed.
